Journal Annotations 001: When Distance Felt Like Safety
On mistaking detachment for healing
Journal Annotations is me pulling pages from my journal and scribbling in the margins. I journal to get my shit off and to look back at receipts of growth in black and white. Manifestations. Overcomings. Proofs of concept.
One of my favorite pastimes is flipping through old entries and realizing how far I’ve come. Not just what I’ve gotten through, but how my thinking has evolved. How the things I once dreamt about became real. How I’ve become living proof that writing it down really does move mountains.
The bible says:
“Write the vision;
make it plain on tablets,
so that a runner may read it.
For there is still a vision for the appointed time;
it speaks of the end, and does not lie.
If it seems to tarry, wait for it;
it will surely come, it will not delay. Habakkuk 2:2-3
That’s what journaling is for me. Every page is an act of faith aka proof that what’s written now will reveal itself later, in divine timing, not my own.
And with that, welcome to the first installment of Journal Annotations. The original journal entries are bolded with annotations in brackets.
